About the Focus RS Mk I

The Focus RS Mk I was produced from 2 October 2002 to 11 November 2003 and was Ford’s return to the RS badge after the demise of the tweaked Escorts, particularly the fabled Ford Escort RS Cosworth. Production was limited to about 4500 from the outset, and the car was built on its own assembly line in Ford’s Saarlouis plant. The RS was offered all over Europe, but 2147 were sold in the UK by far its largest market.

The Paint Correction

The owner of this much loved Focus RS was horrified when he noticed the swirls which had appeared in the paintwork. Upon inspection and after taking some paint depth reading’s we confirmed that the defects could be removed safely by machine polishing. The owner left his pride and joy with us for a couple of days whilst we revived the full beauty of its bodywork.

The vehicle was prepared using our extensive wash method, clayed and tar and glued to remove all of the bonded contaminants.

Now this is what we call clean, and ready for the paint correction!!
We started by taking paint depth readings, and then tested a selection of compounds on a small area of the vehicle. We decided to use a combination of 3M products and proceeded with the correction. This was a slow process as the level of correction varied from panel to panel.

Time and patience paid off, the swirls were gone and the deep glossy lustre was restored to this beautiful car. We then used a pre wax cleanser to remove any excess oils before applying a carnauba
The second layer of Dodo Juice Supernatural Carnauba wax was applied enhancing the depth of the luster.

The RS and its owner drove away looked as proud as we were of this stunning correction.
